An NPA commander who surrendered last Saturday revealed how the New People’s Army revolutionary tax is being spent.
On Wednesday, Ka Rodolfo Peligro appeared in front of media people in Davao City – the first time since his surrender on Saturday.
It was earlier reported that Peligro holds a lot of subversive documents on how the rebel group is being operated. The documents were already forwarded to the Armed Forces of the Philippines according to earlier reports.
“Mula noong 1985 hanggang 2001, 15% lang ng nakokolektang revolutionary tax ang napupunta sa BAYAN (Bagong Alyansang Makabayan). Naging 18% ito dahil lumalaki na ang mga aktibidad sa syudad”, Peligro said.
“From 1985 to 2001, only 15% of collected revolutionary tax goes to BAYAN. It increased to 18% because of increasing urban activities”.
Peligro also added that Renato Reyes, the current Secretary General of BAYAN is regularly paid to head the organization, contrary to what Reyes said before that his duties are voluntary.
The Ex-commander also said that the 18% allocated to BAYAN are also divided to other groups like Gabriela, KABATAAN, and other leftist groups.
Peligro did not said how much is 18% of monthly revolutionary tax, but the ex-rebel said in Bukidnon alone, they collect more than 30 million pesos per month from businessmen.
