EX-VP VERSUS VP. The camp of former vice president Jejomar Binay on Tuesday criticized his successor, Vice President Leni Robredo, for supposedly claiming that she is the hardest working Housing secretary, a post they both held.
Binay's spokesperson, Joey Salgado, said it is "unfair and self-serving" for Robredo to portray herself as the most diligent chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) after only five months in office.
"Hindi natin tinatawaran ang work ethic ni VP Robredo ngunit hindi yata patas at maituturing na pagbubuhat ng sariling bangko ang sinabi nya na siya lang ang pinakamasipag sa lahat ng naging HUDCC chair makalipas lamang ang limang buwan sa tungkulin," Salgado said in a statement.
(Not to question VP Robredo's work ethic, but it is quite unfair and self-serving of her to portray herself - after only five months in office - as the most hardworking HUDCC chair.)
(According to VP Robredo, she is perhaps the only HUDCC chair who personally attends board meetings and works on weekends and at home. Perhaps she hasn't heard of former VP Binay's work ethic.
We don't need to trample on others to raise ourselves.)
Binay served as HUDCC chair and the Presidential Adviser on OFW Affairs before resigning from the Aquino Cabinet in June 2015. He said he was tired of being treated as “a punching bag.”
Robredo, meanwhile, resigned as housing secretary on Sunday, citing differences with President Duterte's stance on narcotics policy and the burial of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani.
Salgado noted that other HUDCC heads served much longer and accomplished more compared to Robredo .
(The other HUDCC chairs served much longer than VP Robredo. They faced different challenges under different situations. They have longer, more tangible lists of accomplishments despite smaller budgets, politicking within the Cabinet, and what she described as the "institutional weakness" of the agency.)
